Pursued By Bear is made by Kyle MacClachlan of Twin Peaks (that's a TV series not an Alpine wine region) and Dan Wampfler (great name!) of Dunham Cellars. Kyle is from Washington State and the wines are from the region, focusing on Columbia Valley. Reds grow really well here and these are lovely examples of Syrah and Cabernet. Bear Cub 2017 is a blend of 65% Cabernet, 18% Merlot and 17% Syrah. The Cabernet and Merlot are aged in French oak, the Syrah in 600L Taransaud puncheons. It is more vibrant than the other big guys in the Pursued by Bear range, with brighter, fresher red fruit flavours, and a cherry pie edge, but still with lots of body and structure.
